TODAY’S MOVE A small turn, done honestlyBack to the shoulders. In July we worked on motion. Today we build the strength behind it. |

I had a rubber exercise band looped round a door handle for about three weeks, and I was very pleased with myself. Every evening I would stand there and pull, feeling productive. Then Carol walked past, watched me for a moment, and said I looked like a man swatting a fly. She was right, and it was worse than she knew. I was swinging my whole torso and letting my elbow wander out from my side. The band was moving. My shoulder was doing almost nothing. Three weeks of honest effort, going nowhere. The fix cost nothing and fits in a drawer. A rolled hand towel. Here is the move done properly, and why that towel matters more than the band does. |

✓✓ A working feeling deep in the back of the shoulder is exactly right. Sharp pain at the top or front of the shoulder is not. Lighten the band, shorten the range, and build slowly. |
FROM THE PARTNERS

Which vitamin actually goes after the pain molecules?
Studies from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden have found a specific vitamin that targets the root cause of the nerve inflammation behind neuropathy.
The mechanism they describe is simple enough to follow: molecules they call “pain molecules” accumulate around your nerves, and that accumulation is what produces the pain.

The answer is in a short video explanation, not in a pill you have to buy first.

THIS WEEK’S QUICK WINS Three ways to make it count |
The most prescribed move, and its honest sizeWhen researchers reviewed what shoulder rehabilitation programs actually contain, this outward turn against a band appeared in seven studies out of ten, more than any other exercise, and muscle-activity recordings show it reaches the back of the rotator cuff better than the alternatives. A study following patients through a progressive shoulder program found pain at rest, at night, and during activity all fell within six weeks, with strength gains arriving mostly between six and twelve weeks. Now the honest part. A 2025 review pooling trials in middle-aged and older adults found the average benefit of shoulder exercise was small, and the studies varied a great deal. So this is worth doing and worth sticking with, but do not expect a transformation. A cheap band, a rolled towel, and patience. Modest gains, but they are the gains this problem actually answers to. |
